THEODORE IS BACK!
Gibson did something radical in 2022 - they released a “reissue” of a Ted McCarty design from 1957 which had not previously seen the light of day. This was the first (and only) entry in the “Archive Collection”. That limited edition run sold out quickly and became quite sought after, so Gibson released the “Theodore” design as a Gibson USA model later as this Theodore Standard.
The Gibson USA Theodore Standard retains all the vital aspects which made the original Theodore unique - the body outline and Explorer headstock remain true to the original release, but other specs have been enhanced for a more luxurious and playable model. The pickups are now a ‘57 Classic (neck) and ‘57 Classic Plus (bridge) for more traditional Gibson humbucking rock ‘n’ roll tones. The fretboard is now bound and features upscale trapezoid inlays, as found on premium models like the Les Paul Standard. Likewise, the tailpiece layout has been upgraded to an ABR-1/Stopbar instead of the troublesome wraparound design. The tuners are now Grovers, a vast improvement over the small plastic-buttoned Klusons. Like other high-end Gibsons, the Theodore standard features a MOP Gibson logo and full gloss finish.
Theodore may not be classic but he is original.

Its features include a mahogany body, scimitar headstock with Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners, and double Florentine cutaways that provide unimpeded access to all 22 frets on the rosewood-capped, SlimTaper™ mahogany neck. The balanced construction is exceptionally comfortable, and the powerful ’57 Classic™ and ’57 Classic Plus humbucker™ pickups produce effortless sustain and a rich diversity of tones. It is available in Antique Natural, Vintage Cherry, and Ebony. A hardshell case is also included.
