THIS BIRD IS ON FIRE!
This is perhaps the most unique Firebird you will ever come across. At its core, it is a Firebird VII, which is exceedingly rare to see from the Custom Shop nowadays. The only Custom Shop Firebird Reissues are Vs - the VII is only available on a custom-order basis. The normal ‘63 Firebird V reissues have the Maestro Vibrola and VOS finish, which isn’t in line with most players’ preferences. And of course there is the “Firebird Custom”, but it lacks much of what makes the Firebird cool - no neck-through construction,two-tiered headstock, or raised center portion of the body. And of course, Gibson USA’s “Firebird Platypus” is a Firebird only in body shape - it also lacks the basic construction elements of original Firebirds. This ‘63 Firebird VII is another breed however…
The Firebird VII model is akin to the Les Paul “Custom” outfit - it is the highest-end and most luxurious Firebird that money can buy. It features an ebony fretboard, MOP inlays, ABR-1 bridge, deluxe banjo tuners, and a historic reissue hand-wired electronics harness. As with the Custom Shop’s other Reissue models, the Firebirds have recently been updated with more historically-accurate details, making them superior to other CS instruments from years past.
This is no ordinary instrument - it is a one-of-one Firebird VII custom-built by Gibson’s own accord (NOT a dealer custom order or M2M) and exhibited for dealers who visited the CS factory in Nashville with the opportunity to purchase. I suspect it may have been built for the January 2026 NAMM Show, but wasn’t taken for one reason or another (this is Guitarsenal’s speculation based on its specs, time of completion, and thematic similarities to the NAMM CS instruments).
It has many notable features. The construction style is different from any other Firebird - it retains the body’s mahogany wings, but they are topped by flamed maple AND abalone-bound. This detail screams “exotic” and provides visual flair - no other Firebird reissue model sports binding due to the multi-leveled body. The headstock veneer is also flamed maple. The entire guitar is finished in a luscious ruby red burst finish, topped off with gold hardware - a very royal astetic. Because of the maple top construction, the pickguard was omitted and the back of the body was routed for the toggle switch cavity instead.
Thankfully, a Maestro Vibrola was omitted in favor of a stopbar tailpiece for more solid tuning stability. And whereas Firebird VIIs are traditionally equipped with 3 Firebird AlNiCo 5 pickups, this VII only has 2. This Firebird is truly a masterpiece.
You won’t find one hotter than this.
