Gibson first introduced the SG Standard, or Les Paul - as it was called at the time, in 1961 as a replacement for the Les Paul Standard ‘bursts, which weren’t selling too well during the late 50s. This new body shape incorporated modernistic features like a thin body, beveled/pointy edges, and a thin neck, which the Les Pauls of the time lacked. The Custom Shop’s 1961 SG Standard Reissue is essentially identical to an original. Cosmetic details like an ambered lacquer and VOS treatment give this SG an older appearance, to mimic an original. All the historic construction details are there too - an ABR-1 bridge, hide glue, aniline dyes, Kluson Deluxe tuners, and CustomBucker AlNiCo III pickups are all built as they were back in the Golden Era. Overall, the 1961 is a fantastic guitar astetically, tonally, and from a playability standpoint as well.
They don’t come truer than this.
Condition is "Excellent". There is a dimple in the finish on the back of the headstock between the 4th and 5th tuners, this was present when received brand new from Gibson. Includes case and pictured accessories.Â
